Observations
-
I was an American college student studying English Literature and stage productions in the Fall of 1990 in London. My classmates and I were invited to meet with the stage designer one day just before an early matinee performance. I remember what struck me most was the set design was a sort of “swirl” or infinite loop (based on some mathematical formula, can’t remember what that was). I remember observing that the design was more of a “concept”, and not just a funky, simplistic stage set.
Watching Josette Simon in the lead role was mesmerizing, and the final scene was quite controversial, but what still sticks with me the most is the image that the simple set, twirling off into infinity …
If anyone can comment on that set design, or knows the name of the stage designer, please respond to this. It’s an image I have kept with me now for over 30 years.
