Hapgood

Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company and West Yorkshire Playhouse present

Hapgood
By Tom Stoppard

Vital information has been leaked to the Russians and female spymaster Hapgood, along with her colleagues, is under pressure to expose the culprit. With only a former Russian spy and a suspected double-crossing member of her team in the frame, the mission looks set to be brought to a quick conclusion. But will Hapgood’s elaborate scheme to expose the traitor be a success or is there more to it than meets the eye?

First produced in 1988, Artistc Director Rachel Kavanaugh revives Stoppard’s brilliant spy thriller with Josie Lawrence in the title role. With Stoppard’s trademark style and brilliant wordplay, Hapgood is guaranteed to keep audiences guessing to the very end.

As one of England’s most prolific playwrights Tom Stoppard’s writing credits include Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, Arcadia, the Academy Award-winning Shakespeare In Love, The Real Thing and most recently Rock ‘N’ Roll.

*“Tom Stoppard’s most cunning play – a dazzling double game of physics and espionage – remarkable”*
