Producer’s Note.
In preparing the present production, on an invitation by Glyndebourne. I should like to pay tribute to the late Sir Nigel Playfair, whose name is linked inextricably with that of “The Beggar’s Opera.” His famous revival of 1920, with the musical arrangement of Frederic Austin and the exquisite scenery and dresses of the late Claud Lovat Fraser, created upon me, as well as upon thousands of others privileged to see it, both in England and America, an unforgettable impression.
