Boeing Boeing

This touring production ended with the collapse of Cay Productions, owing over £33,000 – including over £1,000 to the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich (which built the set) and over £600 to the Theatre Royal, Hanley, where it was originally scheduled to play from 9th to 14th December. (Angela Thomas, ‘Boeing, Boeing … gone: Theatre production company folds after disastrous tour’, The Stage 27th February 1986, page 2.)

Rodney Bewes ‘bought’ the Saturday matinee at Newcastle (ie, paid the management to cancel it) so that he could watch Chelsea play Newcastle United at St James’ Park, a few hundred yards from the theatre. (See Liverpool Echo 15th November 1985, page 4 / Daily Mirror 16th November 1985, page 11.)
