Observations
-
Shortly before rehearsals were due to commence, the casting budget had been used up and there was still a minor part to be filled. As the Company Manager, Maurice Greenham, was scheduled to go on tour with the production. He offered to undertake the role of butler, if the director was satisfied with him at the read through. She was.
After the press night, Maurice’s performance got a good review in the Independent Newspaper. This led to a summons to the office of the Artistic Director, who informed Maurice that he wanted him to play Merriman in the next production of The Importance of Being Ernest.
The show transferred to the Theatre Royal Brighton before touring Wales
