Victoria Theatre

Opened as the Victoria Assembly Rooms but quickly became known as the Victoria Opera House. The theatre was renamed the Victoria Theatre in 1935 and in November 1940 the Old Vic London transferred its headquarters here. The Old Vic company’s time here in 1941 and 1942 was commemorated by a plaque, inside the theatre, which was unveiled by Tyrone Guthrie in 1952.
