Swan Theatre, Worcester

The Swan Theatre was built in 1963 and opened to the public in 1965. The building was funded through private donations, City Council Funding and general fundraising undertaken by the Society for the Advancement of Music and Arts. The architect was Henry Gorst. The Swan was the first theatre in England to be specifically designed with disabled people in mind. On the 19th July 1963 the foundation stone was laid by Dame Peggy Ashcroft and remains by the stage door to this day.
