Theatre 503, The Latchmere

The theatre was established in January 1982 as a South London extension of the Gate at Notting Hill, under the name Gate at the Latchmere, referring to the pub below.

Having closed down in November 1984, it reopened as just The Latchmere in February 1985. A further name change, to Grace at the Latchmere, followed in 1992.

In 2004, after legal proceedings, it was renamed again as Theatre 503. (See Ruth Gillespie: ‘Fringe war of words begins as Latchmere, Battersea renamed: Venue becomes Theatre 503 as 12-year battle comes to an end’, The Stage 12th August 2004, page 2.)
