Cyril Raymond

Cyril Raymond was born on February 13, 1899 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England as Cyril William North Raymond. He was an actor and writer, known for Brief Encounter (1945), The Ghost Train (1931) and The Faithful Heart (1922). He was married to Gillian Lind and Iris Hoey. He died on March 20, 1973 in Ripe, Sussex, England.

Ruddy-complexioned British character actor, trained at Tree’s Academy of Dramatic Art in 1915. Usually played quiet, dependable types and professional men. Best remembered as Celia Johnson’s dullish husband in Brief Encounter (1945).

Like fellow actor Ronald Adam, he was a fighter controller in the Battle of Britain. Raymond controlled the Kenley sector. He re-enacted his wartime role in the film Angels One Five (1952).

In 1930, he had an affair whilst on Broadway with actor Janet Morrison and from this romance came the birth of a child. When the child was four, she gave him up for adoption and he was never to see his mother again or know who his real parents were.

Briefest Encounters is a Documentary Drama based on the life of an Actress named Janet Morrison. The documentary was written and produced by Janet’s granddaughter Joanna Crosse of Meta Media, Bath, Somerset, UK.
