Edwin Barwick

Edwin Barwick was born in 1858 at Pimlico England and Died in the year 1928 at Camberwell London England. He married a lady by the name of Charlotte Mayle in the year 1881.
From my research of my Great Grandfather on my Fathers Maternal Side I have found he was a Famous Comedian in his time. He appeared in a Royal Command Performance along with the likes of Pavlova.
Some plays I have been able to find that he appeared in are:Cinderella, the Prince, the Palace and the slipper of Crystal. I believe he actualy wrote this play. He appeared in the Pantomime Cinderella at the Birmingham Theatre Royal in December 1886 in which he appeared as one of the Ugly Sisters.
I found thru Trove a Newspaper Article dated18 Feb 1920 that Edwin was a member of the Variety Artists Association and was standing for re-election for that Association.I believe he was also a member of an organisation called the Water Rats that was started and still continues to run to this very day, where they raise money for families of Artists that may be doing it tough.
I have found a entry in the Pitmans Melody;Shaw about Shakespear where Edwin is mentioned in relation to a song written and sung by him in relation to Irving. The song was called Irving on the Brain. The song was composed by a Mr Walter Passmore Esq.It notes in this entry “it was written and sung with the greatest possible success by that inimitable Character Comedian Edwin Barwick”
I have also found a site a guide to popular songs 1860–1920 and Edwin is found listed here for singing Jinks,KC Nightmares Tutor and the Trilby Mad.I must admit I haven’t heard one of them.
I will down load what I have found but it appears that in his time My Great Grandfather was a well known and well respected Musical Hall Performer and I thank the maker of this site for allowing us to have a place where we can list their achievments so that they are not totally forgotten.
