Pippa Nissen

Pippa is an architect and a theatre designer.
She read architecture at Cambridge University and qualified at the Bartlett School of Architecture. She has also completed an MA in Theatre Design with distinction, at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Early in her career Pippa worked as an architect in practices that specialise in the design of arts based projects. In 2002 she co-founded the award winning architecture practice Nissen Adams where she was responsible for a wide variety of building projects as well as many international theatre and installation designs.

Her recent work also focuses on exhibition work, where her theatre and architecture background come together in the design of narrative spaces. She particularly enjoys collaborating with other artists as part of the design process. This year her clients have included; the British Council, Southbank Centre, Design Museum London, the V&A, Aldeburgh Festival, Imperial War Museum, and the V&A Museum of Childhood.

Pippa taught architecture for ten years at Kingston University and currently teaches first year undergraduates at Cambridge University. She is regularly invited to lecture and take part in wider debates about design and she has received many awards for her work. This includes the AJCorus 40 Under 40, and this year she was part of the UK team at the international Scenography Quadrennial exhibition in Prague PQ11.
