William Russell

Billed as RUSSELL ENOCH (see separate entry) at the beginning of his career and again during the 1980s.

From the EMMA programme, October 1967:

“William Russell has just completed a busy season with the Welsh Theatre Company playing lead roles in Alun Owen’s THE ROSE AFFAIR, ROOKERY NOOK, RATTLE OF A SIMPLE MAN, and THE PRISONER. He started his career at Oxford and the Bristol Old Vic, his first West end role was in HAMLET with Alec Guinness, he appeared in Lillian Hellman’s MONTSERRAT with Richard Burton, went to Russia and Poland with the Old Vic production of MACBETH and more recently played Rochester in JANE EYRE at the Belgrade Theatre and the lead in SEPARATE TABLES at Leeds. Films include THE GREAT ESCAPE with Steve McQueen and James Garner and on television he was in eighty episodes of the BBC DR WHO series with William Hartnell.”
