Russell Hunter

Real name Russell Ellis. Worked as an apprentice in the Clyde shipyards. A stalwart in the late 40’s of the Glasgow based drama company Unity Theatre. Helped to launch the Edinburgh Royal Lyceum Theatre’s first rep company alongside Brian Cox in 1965.
Married three times – 1] Marjorie Thompson. 2] Caroline Blakiston. 3] Una McLean.
Gained fame for playing the role of the shabby and smelly Lonely in the TV series “Callan” with Edward Woodward, from 1967 to 1972.
