Diane Todd

DIANE TODD who was born in Edinburgh, started singing when she was only three at Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre. By the time she was fifteen she was starring in the West End and played principal parts in several shows and at eighteen had a leading role in “Kismet”. Diane had already been a resident singer on the “Six Five Special” and the “Tonight” television programmes. Through her recording of “I Could Have Danced All Night” she was offered the starring part of Eliza in “My Fair Lady” in America and she played the role there for two years. She came back to England to star in a stage production of “Jane Eyre” written specially for her and the play was given a Royal Command Performance at the Theatre Royal, Windsor. She then went to South Africa to star in “My Fair Lady” for a further year and returned to London to fulfill an ambition by singing at Sadler’s Wells. She sang Oscar in “The Masked Ball” and Saffi in “The Gipsy Baron”. When the Sadler’s Wells season had finished she went to South Africa to star in several shows including her own musical revue stage show “The Diane Todd Show”. She has been on television programmes throughout the world, appeared in cabaret, broadcasted [sic] and made many records. Hobbies include cooking, painting and horse-riding. – from THE GREAT WALTZ programme (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane 1971).
