Mark Lawrence

Mark studied Music with German at Bristol University, and postgraduate Composition and Musicology with Rhian Samuel at City University, London. He combines work as a freelance composer, lecturer and music director. He is director of CoMA Bristol, the Big Friendly Community Choir, Cosmos Children’s Choir, and founder-director of Music Box Children’s Opera Group. As a composer, Mark’s pieces have included Windows over Water for the Bath International Music Festival, and many choral pieces including the Anglo Saxon poem The Ruin for Voce Chamber Choir, London. Music for BBC Radio Drama includes Calderon’s Life is a Dream and Karen Hope’s Missing the Melody. For theatre, scores include Jim Cartwright’s Bed and Nick Enright’s Good Works for Show of Strength Theatre Company at the Bristol Old Vic, where he was also recently MD for Firebird Theatre’s production of The Breadhorse. Extended compositions include the community operas Coming Home and Cosmos for St George’s Bristol.
