Deborah Bateman

Deborah Bateman left Harrogate rep in the Spring of 1969 and joined a Cameron Mackintosh touring production of a couple of Agatha Christie plays touring Rotherham, Norwich, and Wimbledon, among other places. She then worked at Billingham Forum Theatre before doing a summer season at Filey Butlins. She had married a stage carpenter by then, David Nicol, and she and her husband went to live in Bromley, Kent, where he worked as master carpenter and where they had a son, Sebastian, now domiciled in Japan with his wife, Misako, and their son, Hal. Deborah and David divorced in 1975 and she remarried in 1979 and had 3 more sons. She never returned to the professional stage, enjoying motherhood too much, but was involved in amateur theatre in Rugby, Warwickshire, where she lived from 1979 until 2011, and learnt to sing properly, gaining a Singing Diploma in 1986 and singing with the CBSO chorus from 1982 until 2011. She sings semi professionally in West Wales, where she now lives, and Shropshire.
