Tommy Nelldon

Tommy (real name John Thomas Pratt) was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1878 – the son of John Pratt and Annie Higgins – his father’s profession was actor/operatic singer and he took took the stage name J. Gordon Nelldon. Tom was already on the stage at a very young age – his mother died in 1890 and by that time he was on the road with his father. They performed in variety and also a circus (Henglers?). Tom performed in South Africa in about 1911. The stage name came from an ancestor Alistair Ranaldson MacDonell (hence Nelldon). Tom was quite a prolific performer and appears to have been married three times – first wife was Vera, then Joan and finally Gladys. During WW2 Tom settled in Coventry where he worked in a munitions factory – he died in in the 1960s. Tom’s daughter settled in Australia and his granddaughter still lives there.
