Paul Hernon

Born in Northumberland. After a brief time involved with archaeology, studied Education at Durham. Moved to London in 1974. Worked at Cosprop and ENO. Became freelance designer/director. Directed Le Vin herbe, The Crucible (Robert Ward) Midsummer Nights Dream, the Mozart/da Ponte Trilogy and Acis and Galatea (London, Seville, Perelada, Madrid, Reggio Emilia) amongst many others. Worked as assistant to Stefanos Lazaridis. Worked as designer with Yuri Lyubimov on Jenufa (Zurich & Covent Garden) Eugene Onegin (Bonn) Tannhauser (Stuttgart) and Das Rheingold (Covent Garden)
Started teaching in north Wales in 1990. Retired in 2004 has since curated art exhibitions about Paul Sandby and about the Grand Tour. Published books include Sit Watkin’s Tours (2013) Currently researching social history of Vale of Llangollen where he lives.
