The French Mistress
Subtitle: A LIGHT-HEARTED AFFAIR. The Windsor run was attended by the Queen and Princess Margaret on Thursday 9th April.
The show’s Adelphi opening was originally set for Thursday 4th June. Sonnie Hale, its star and (as Robert Monro) author, was hospitalised that morning with a virus infection. He died the following Tuesday in St George’s Hospital, London. The play finally opened on Saturday the 13th, with Richard Bird playing Hale’s role.
