Daughter of Desire

Typical ‘prostitutes and pimps’ melodrama of the period, reviewed in The Stage on 10th May 1956 (‘Drama of a girl’s downfall’, page 13).

“This is not for the squeamish. Deborah Bedford’s play is a ruthless and daring exposure of vice. No punches are pulled as the story unfolds of the life of a lovely innocent girl caught up in the cesspool of prostitution by vicious racketeers living on the flesh of women.” – ‘Show Page’, Manchester Evening News 7th August 1956 (page 2)

Her performance in this twice-nightly tour helped win Janet Munro a British Lion film contract the following year. (‘Film part for Janet Munro’, The Stage 28th February 1957, page 11).
