Edmund Goffron

At the outbreak of WW2 Edmund joined E.N.S.A and toured France, Holland Germany.
In 1945 he sang Caramello (tenor) in ‘A Night in Venice’ at the London Cambridge Theatre and played Schubert in ‘Lilac Time’ (revival tour).
In 1947 he auditioned for C.B.Cochran’s Production of ‘Bless the Bride’ in central London . He eventually played the lead tenor part when Georges Guitary left the show and Edmund went on to play the part of Pierre for a grand total of 1600 performances both in London and on tour in the UK. He also sang on BBC radio on numerous occasions on Midday Music Hall and Variety Playhouse.
In 1953 he appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in their International Flood Relief show.
His singing days ended in 1968 after playing several parts for an amateur operatic society in London and then went on to coach singing at his Pimlico flat for many years – remembered fondly as ‘The Monday Club’ !
Regrettably due to family problems, he became somewhat reclusive and it was later discovered that he had moved away from his flat and his whereabouts were unknown until his nephew heard via the Salvation Army that he had passed away at the East London Homerton Hospital just short of his 84th birthday.
It is with much regret to those that both knew and loved him that he was buried in a common grave at Manor Park Cemetery, East London.
